Baby Chicks!

I am the new mother of 16 baby chickens (originally 17, but one went to chicken heaven last night). They are the cutest things ever! Who knew teaching science could be so much fun? Of course nothing is as fun as teaching math, but this comes pretty close. My sister will be adopting 6 of the chicks to have her own, fresh eggs. The other 10 will go to live with one of the other science teachers. It's too bad that something that starts out so cute ends up turning into a big, ugly chicken, but they are adorable now. My students are completely enamored with them, as am I (obviously). We will only be keeping them for a few more days. It will be sad to see them go. :(

Awwww, congratulations! You must have been very careful to turn your eggs often (including weekends) to have such cute, fuzzy chicks who poop so much! :) Good job!

I thought you'd keep them and have a big chicken pot pie to celebrate the end of school.

I know! My sister wanted to keep some until they got big enough to eat. I told her absolutely not! Of course CTP had to say, "what do you think chickens are for?" Other chickens are for eating. Not mine!

Your chickens are adorable and precious and winsome. I'm sure they'll live happy chicken lives thanks to your careful upbringing. :)
