Baby Chicks!

I am the new mother of 16 baby chickens (originally 17, but one went to chicken heaven last night). They are the cutest things ever! Who knew teaching science could be so much fun? Of course nothing is as fun as teaching math, but this comes pretty close. My sister will be adopting 6 of the chicks to have her own, fresh eggs. The other 10 will go to live with one of the other science teachers. It's too bad that something that starts out so cute ends up turning into a big, ugly chicken, but they are adorable now. My students are completely enamored with them, as am I (obviously). We will only be keeping them for a few more days. It will be sad to see them go. :(

Pi Day

Last week was my most favorite week of the entire school year! We celebrated all week, leading up to Pi Day. For those of you that lead sheltered lives, Pi Day is celebrated every year on March 14 at 1:59, because pi = 3.14159.... I wore a different pi day t-shirt every day last week. We did fun activities, learning where pi comes from. I read "Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi" to all of my classes. We had a contest to see who could memorize the most digits of pi. Alex memorized the most in the school with 222 digits. I was so proud!

Smiley Face

This weekend, I am traveling to Harrisburg (CTP, Alex and Andy are lucky enough to come along) with two of my students for the MATHCOUNTS state competition. They will compete against other talented math students from PA in three levels of competition. How exciting! Tomorrow night and Saturday morning, full of math activities. What could be more fun? Seriously, I'm very excited. I've never had a student qualify for this tournament before, and this year I have two! I really hope they do well. They are good kids, and both of them are great math students! Hopefully in a year or two, Alex will make it to states!

In regards to our girl's night out next weekend...Princess, when you and I mentioned the 28th, I completely forgot that this was the same day as Chief Master's tournament. Theoretically that shouldn't be a problem. Those of us actually attending (and competing...hint, hint, hint) should be done by about 4 or so. Could we shoot for a late dinner? Say, 8 or so? What do you all think?

"Kim needs..."

Two posts in one week. Aren't you people lucky?

Now that I'm depressed after reading my 10 'needs', here they are...

1. Kim Needs to Take Off the Gloves...nicely fits into tkd
2. Kim needs super effort to make the cut...what 'cut' would that be
3. Kim needs a refreshment...depends on what kind
4. Kim needs help big time...definitely true
5. Kim needs to mind her own business...hey!
6. Kim needs to loose a few...also true
7. Kim needs more stuff at her mat!...what mat would that be?
8. Kim needs some hints...hints never hurt anybody
9. Kim needs to shut up and go home...now I'm getting offended!
10. Kim needs help...this seems to be a common theme...

This was a fun activity, but i must pose the question...where does the idea to start something like this come from?

Remember me?

So, I've fallen off the face of the blogging world for a few weeks. Forgive me. But, Princess had a good idea that I'd like to throw out to everyone. We were talking about ice skating and decided that would be a good time if we all went some time. We could include the children (or not) and go ice skating some evening. Either at Kirk Nevin or, an even better place, would be in Delmont (right off of 66). I think the Delmont rink has open skating Friday and Saturday nights. Let me know what you guys think and we can try to plan an outing.

Thought you guys might also enjoy this:

SOMEBODY'S RAISING THEIR KID RIGHT!
One day a 6 year old girl was sitting in a
classroom. The teacher was going to explain
evolution to the children. The teacher asked
a little boy: Tommy do you see the tree
outside?
TOMMY: Yes.
TEACHER: Tommy, do you see the grass
outside?
TOMMY: Yes.
TEACHER: Go outside and look up and see
if you can see the sky.
TOMMY: Okay. (He returned a few minutes
later) Yes, I saw the sky.
TEACHER: Did you see God up there?
TOMMY: No.
TEACHER: That's my point. We can't see
God because he isn't there. Possibly he just
doesn't exist.
A little girl spoke up and wanted to ask the
boy some questions.
The teacher agreed and the little girl asked
the boy: Tommy, do you see the tree
outside?
TOMMY: Yes.
LITTLE GIRL: Tommy do you see the grass
outside?
TOMMY: Yessssss!
LITTLE GIRL: Did you see the sky?
TOMMY: Yessssss!
LITTLE GIRL: Tommy, do you see the
teacher?
TOMMY: Yes
LITTLE GIRL: Do you see her brain?
TOMMY: No
LITTLE GIRL: Then according to what we
were taught today in school, she possibly
may not even have one!

Burger Meister, Meister Burger

Thanks to my good friend, Princess, I am now extremely lucky to be sporting a minature of Burger Meister on one of my many trees. Can't you see how happy she, I mean he, is to finally be a part of the group she, I mean he, has aspired to belong to since day one? She, again, I mean he, is front and center on my MAIN Christmas tree in the family room for all to enjoy all day, every day. I just know that the first thing CTP is going to do upon entering our home, after being in Texas all week, is rush to the tree to gaze lovingly upon this festive new addition to our Christmas bling. So, thanks again, Princess, you have made my holiday season sooooooooooo much better!
